It's Called Blocking

Typically, search firms today are contractually prohibited from recruiting from companies for whom they perform retained searches. They also cannot present a candidate to more than one of their clients. So the more companies a firm serves, the more companies – and candidates – it is blocked from approaching on searches for other clients. This is a problem for the large name-brand executive recruiting firms.

The blocking issue represents a powerful advantage for GMA over larger competitors. Our client list is small by design, fewer than 30 long-term relationships, compared with a clientele that numbers in the hundreds for the most well-known search firms.

We enjoy 95 percent access to the global executive talent pool, compared with a typical big firm’s 30-50 percent. Our clients like that fact very much.
